Presidential $1 Dollar coins to be released

Presidential $1 Dollar coins to be released in 2007 according to this article:
http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.co...llar-coin.html

However, I received some 'junk mail' with my bills trying to sell me a Presidential $1 Collector coin folder - for the new coins being released this fall ?!?

It's a Deluxe green folder (FWIW).

""A new pure-gold bullion coin to honor presidential spouses will be created, designed to appeal to collectors and investors alike. "

Better get your Hillery order in early before they are all spoken for!

Did anyone catch the fact the 'spouses' are 24k gold coins while the Presidents will be circulated zinc (assumption) ones ?

Re: Presidential $1 Dollar coins to be released

Maybe Bill's and Hillery's coins will be double sided gold/zinc sandwitch so they do not have two coins each.

They have to be dead before they get coined. Do you know something we don't? :chat: Do tell.

I suspect this will be a flop coin like the Sac. dollar. The gov't so stupid, very few use dollar coins anymore, as that denomination is used mostly for change. Most people I know use $10s and $20s and get $1s back in change.

Oh, well I will collect a few for numismatic purposes.

You forgot about the change you get at US Post Office.

Use a stamp machine with a $10 or $20 and you'll get a handful of Sac $1 coins........

With inflation what it is, they should get rid of the paper $1 bill and just use a $1 coin. Get rid of the Sac's cuz they look ugly after a few years of circulation.

not to mention the coins last 25+ years vs. less than a year for paper. downside is a pocketful of em is weighty and noisy. every time I go to Canada or Yurp I end up with mountains of change because the smallest paper note is five whatevers (unless you're in Hungary--quite a cheap thrill to pull 80,000HUF out of the ATM there!)

but the Crane Paper Co. bribes keep their currency-paper mill churning, so it's not likely to change.

I have some Sacawagea dollars in my pocket. If you ask your bank nicely, you might be able to pick up a few (I've been asking for $2 bills and $10 rolls of 50 coins lately, the latter for prospecting, the former for spending. :D).

I hope the next dollar coin is about the same size as the old Peace and Morgan dollars. The Sacawageas are just too small!

Re: Presidential $1 Dollar coins to be released

I think the presidential dollars are supposed to be same size & composition as sackies. Sackies are also to be produced alongside the presidential dollars during those years.

I predict they'll just be hoarded by the sheeple who don't know any better, and the Mint will make off like a bandit on seingorage and selling special sets.

I may keep a few, but most of my spare FRN will be traded for Ag!

oh my .... i bet that they will be "gold colored" coins also. LOL it is a sad day whenever our own government prints "fake gold" coins...

A few weeks ago I heard a major FOX network news broadcaster (when someone passed a Sac. dollar) say in befuddlement that he had no idea that they existed. "I've never seen one of these".

Maybe Clinton's coin can have two heads, to reflect his two-faced nature. It would be appropriate, somehow.

Or his coin can have Chinese characters on it, to better reflect the country he represented during his tenure.

If the mint would put the back side of the old Walking Liberty design on the present Walking Liberty which had the old eagle design where it is perched on a pine sapling over a canyon, that alone would shoot sales up alone, as the present Eagle stinks to me most people too. They copied the front the of the Half Dollar Walking Liberty, so there was no reason not to copy the back side too. There is no law saying it could not be. The Eagle side on SAE is ugly.

You got my vote on that one. Problem is nobody's counting votes. Maybe the new 999fine gold coin with the buffalo nickle design will show 'em the way!

If they consider his affairs, the coin could have a very interesting tail!
